Fire destroys properties in Kano market
Parts of Singa Market, a well-known Kano market, were destroyed by an early-morning fire on Monday. Sections of the crowded market were damaged when the fire started early in the morning.
Kano State Fire department spokesperson Saminu Yusif confirmed the event, stating that the department got a distress call at approximately 3:16 am and sent firefighters to the area right once to put out the fire.
“As of about 10 am, pockets of the market were still burning, with firefighters working to bring the situation under control and prevent the fire from spreading further,” Yusif said.
However, he promised to provide journalists with more information about the incident in the future. In Onitsha North Local Government Area of Anambra State, a domestic building at Fabikez Street, Omagba Phase 2, was completely destroyed by fire.
A 95-year-old woman was killed after being trapped for several hours.
According to reports, the fire broke out in one of the flats in the two-story building at approximately 5:15 p.m. last Friday and spread to nearby units before Anambra State Fire Service workers put it out a few hours later.
It was discovered that homeowners and bystanders helped to contain the fire, which was said to have caused damage worth several million naira, as firefighters worked feverishly to put it out.
