Fire outbreak at Mutrtala international airport leaves six people injured

Following a fire at Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Monday, airspace over Lagos was briefly suspended.

According to a statement from Nigerian officials, six persons were hurt, but they are all reportedly in stable condition. Emergency personnel removed the 14 stranded individuals from the control tower.

The fire seems to have begun in a server room on Terminal 1's first level at around 3 p.m. The airport's $500 million remodeling project, the departures hall, was damaged by the fire.

In order to resume operations, Nigeria's Airspace Management Agency stated that it was constructing a temporary control tower. Flights started up again at 7:30 p.m.
