Fire razes 48 shops in Lagos market
At least 48 stores were burned in the early-morning fire that shook the Elegushi Model Market complex in Lagos State's Lekki neighborhood.
Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency's Permanent Secretary, revealed this in a statement on Sunday. The PS claims that at around two in the morning on Sunday, the agency received an emergency alert.
When they arrived on the site, they found the market complex completely on fire. He mentioned that in order to stop the fire from causing more damage, the emergency reaction team confined it right away.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, preliminary investigations showed that the fire started at a temporary stall inside the market complex before spreading to the main building. The incident did not result in any fatalities.
He stated, “Preliminary investigations conducted by the Shark Response Team revealed that the fire started from one of the makeshift stalls within the compound of the market and quickly escalated to the main building. The cause of the fire was not known at the time of this report.
“No life was lost, and no injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.
