Former finance minister, Abubakar Alhaji dies at 87
Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, the Sardaunan Sokoto and former Minister of Finance for Nigeria, has passed away.
According to the family, the elder statesman died in Abuja. He was eighty-seven years old.
In 1988, Alhaji was the State, Budget, and Planning Minister. Later, from 1990 to 1991, he was the Minister of Finance under General Ibrahim Babangida, a former military president.
Later, from 1992 to 1996, he served as Nigeria's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, where he contributed to the strengthening of bilateral ties.
According to the family, funeral plans will be made public in due course in compliance with Islamic customs.
