Former Nigerian ambassador, Ibironke Adefope, dies at 73
Ambassador Ibironke Adefope, a renowned member of the Oyo State Elders' Council and the former Nigerian High Commissioner to Zambia and Malawi, died at the age of 73.
Adefope, who was born in Ibadan, Oyo State, on February 23, 1952, led a happy life distinguished by his dedication to community development, diplomatic service, and scholastic achievement.
Engr. Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, has expressed profound sadness at Adefope's departure, calling her a "Amazon" and "icon" who made a lasting impression on history.
“The news of the death of our Mama, Ambassador Ibironke Adefope, a former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Zambia and a member of the Oyo State Elders’ Council, came to me as a rude shock,” Governor Makinde said in a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
“However, we must submit to the will of God, who gives and takes life,” he added.
Makinde commended Ambassador Adefope for her service and legacy, pointing out that she is descended from Chief Meredith Adisa Akinloye, a well-known politician and her grandfather, as well as the distinguished Eegunjenmi family of Itutaba, Oje, Ibadan.
