Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, is dead
Peter Rufai, the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champion and former Super Eagles goalie, has passed away.
The Nigeria Football Federation announced the news of Rufai's death in a post on Thursday through its official X handle.
“Forever in our hearts, Dodo Mayana. We mourn the passing of legendary Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, a giant of Nigerian football and a 1994 AFCON champion.
“Your legacy lives on between the sticks and beyond. Rest well, Peter Rufai,” the tribute read.
Rufai, affectionately known as Dodo Mayana, played 65 games for the national team and was a member of the golden generation that won Nigeria's second AFCON championship in 1994 in Tunisia.
Additionally, he competed for the nation in the FIFA World Cup in 1994 and 1998.
