As he celebrates his 50th birthday, Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has congratulated his predecessor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, calling the occasion a time to reflect on a life characterised by brave leadership and significant influence.  

In a statement released on Wednesday by Ismaila Isah, his Special Adviser on Media, Governor Ododo praised Bello's contributions to Kogi State's growth and pointed out that his influence still shapes the state's governance.  

Ododo lauded Bello for establishing a precedent that sparked a new wave of political participation and youth leadership in the state, recalling his rise to become Nigeria's youngest governor in 2016.

“Our leader, Governor Yahaya Bello, came as the pathfinder of the future. He built a system where sons and daughters of anybody could aspire for positions of influence; where streets once forgotten became pathways to leadership; I am here today as the Chief Servant of Kogi State and a living testament to that philosophy,” he said.

Regardless of class or political background, he pointed out that the former governor placed a high priority on inclusiveness by assigning women and young people to important positions throughout the state.  

Bello's efforts to instill a sense of purpose in people were emphasised by Ododo, who also mentioned that he helped mould future leaders and empowered many through opportunities in public service.  

Additionally, he characterised Bello's style of government as one that provided access to public officials even after they had taken on more responsibility at the state and federal levels and opened doors for regular individuals.
