Governor Adeleke declares Friday public holiday to celebrate New Islamic year

In honor of Hijrah 1437 AH, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has proclaimed Friday, June 27, 2025, a public holiday.

Rasheed Aderigbigbe, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, said in a statement on Thursday that the purpose of the public holiday was to enable Muslims to spend the day with their family.

Governor Adeleke also exhorted Muslims to use the Prophet's migration as motivation to deepen their faith, advance peace, and defend justice in all facets of life.

His spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, wrote in a Hijrah statement that the Hijrah is a time for introspection and spiritual rejuvenation and a potent representation of selflessness, tenacity, and divine direction.

“The Hijrah reminds us of the strength found in unity, the courage to stand for truth, and the grace of peaceful coexistence.

“Let us use this sacred moment to recommit ourselves to building a more inclusive, compassionate, and harmonious society where our diversity becomes our greatest strength.

“Let us use this spiritual occasion to reflect on the values of love, sacrifice, and mutual respect that the Hijrah embodies,” he added.
