Gunmen abduct 23 in Kogi orphanage home, operatives rescue fifteen

In the Zariagi neighborhood of Lokoja, Kogi State, gunmen attacked a school and "unregistered" orphanage, kidnapping no fewer than 23 students.

The proprietor's wife was kidnapped as a result of the Sunday evening event.

The state government received complaints of a security breach at an unregistered orphanage and school facility situated in a remote location of Zariagi, along the Kabba Junction, according to a statement released on Monday by Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, confirming the incident.

“Preliminary findings indicate that the facility, identified as Dahallukitab Group of School, was operating illegally in a remote, bushy environment without registration with the state government and without the knowledge of relevant authorities and security agencies.

"The unfortunate incident, which occurred late on April 26, 2026, involved the abduction of 23 pupils and the wife of the proprietor by unknown gunmen,” Fanwo said.

He said that 15 of the students were saved when security forces, under the command of the Nigeria Police Force, quickly mobilized to the scene in coordination with other security personnel after getting the report.
