Gunmen abduct Colonel in Delta community

After attending a marriage ceremony in Delta State's Bomadi Local Government Area, an army officer, simply known as Lt.-Col. Josiah, was abducted from his lodge.

Soldiers from the Bomadi Division of the military Joint Task Force, or JTF, are monitoring Bomadi and the surrounding areas in response to the event that happened yesterday in Bomadi, the council's headquarters. The incident has sparked alarm in the riverfront town.

According to information obtained by Vanguard, Lt. Colonel Josiah spent the weekend at a marriage celebration in the neighboring town of Kpakiama, which is close to Bomadi.  He went to his lodge in Bomadi, the council's headquarters, after the ceremony.

According to a source who requested anonymity, the armed kidnappers arrived at the lodge between 2 and 2.30 in the morning, searched the rooms, stole the phones, and drove off with the military officer in a waiting car.

“The kidnappers came to the hotel about 2a.m., to 2.30a.m. They searched every room, took the phones at lodgers and forced the military officer outside. They even fired shots before zooming out of the hotel premises with the military officer in their vehicle. There was also blood on the ground after they had left the premises.

“The following day, we heard that the JTF had found the vehicle in which they carried out the operation in neighbouring Tuomo community, which was abandoned by the side of the Tuomo-Ogbobagbene-Tamigbe-Torugbene-Ojobo road. The vehicle has already been brought to their base at Bomadi-Overside,” he said.

However, the incident has caused tension in Bomadi and the surrounding area, with many expressing dread of the unknown due to what they described as potential military violence against civilians.
