On Tuesday night, a horrific ambush by gunmen in the Giro Masa hamlet in the Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State claimed the lives of several military and police officers as well as civilians.

Although two community members were confirmed deceased, the precise number of security personnel casualties is still unknown, according to local sources, Channels reported.

Before being tracked to a construction company yard, the attackers were reportedly active throughout the neighborhood and surrounding regions, according to eyewitnesses. Soldiers were sent to the location after receiving a tip from locals, but they were ambushed en way.

Two military weapons trucks were allegedly set on fire by the attackers.

The incident was deadly and chaotic, according to a resident who spoke on condition of anonymity.

“The gunmen came into our village and were heading towards the construction company yard. We alerted security personnel, but they were ambushed,” the source said.

Another local observed the folks' anxiety and uncertainty.

“It was terrifying. People were running in all directions as the gunmen fired at the soldiers and set the trucks ablaze,” the resident added.
