In Benue State's Tarka Local Government Area, the residence of Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the Wannune community was the target of a murderous attack by suspected herdsmen.  

According to the DAILY POST, the attack claimed many lives and injured numerous more.  Just 48 hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited the state to address the escalating insecurity, there was an assault.  

According to a local youth corps member, the atmosphere was frightening and chaotic.

“Everyone is running into the bushes for safety. Please let Nigerians pray for us. The herdsmen are ravaging the environment now,” the corps member said in a desperate SOS, calling on security agencies for urgent intervention.

The renewed violence has cast serious doubts over the effectiveness of President Tinubu’s visit and the directives he issued to security agencies.
