Gunmen attack Lagos estate, kills security guard

Stanley, a security guard, was allegedly shot and killed during an alleged cult-related attack at Royale Estate in Lagos State's Sangotedo neighborhood.

Gunmen assaulted the estate on Friday night, fired, and then fled.

Stanley was on duty as a security guard when the attackers allegedly arrived at the estate between 10 and 11 p.m., according to a source familiar with the situation.

The man was shot multiple times, including in the head, according to the source, who asked to remain anonymous due to security concerns.

"They just stormed the estate and started shooting. Stanley, the security man on duty, was shot several times, and in the head too, before they shot in the air and fled the area,” the source said.

Following the incident, people reacted on social media, especially NaijaConfra, where they posted videos and postings claiming that the attack was carried out by suspected cult members.

The Lagos State Police Command hasn't officially acknowledged that the incident was connected to a cult, though.

Abimbola Adebisi, the command's spokesperson, confirmed the shooting on Monday. According to preliminary information, two unidentified guys on a motorbike attacked the victim.

“The incident occurred. He was shot by two unknown individuals on a motorcycle. The command has launched an investigation into the incident. No suspect yet,” Adebisi said.

The police spokeswoman would not confirm whether the attackers were members of a cult or reveal the attack's motivation.
