Gunmen attack TCN Kwara power substation, kidnap workers
According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, personnel at the Offa 132kV Transmission Substation in Kwara State were taken hostage at gunpoint on Thursday morning by highly armed men.
Consequently, the TCN declared force majeure on the Offa 132kV substation on Saturday.
Ndidi Mbah, the company's general manager of public affairs, revealed this in a statement released on Saturday.
The incident happened early on Thursday morning, according to the business, when the attackers broke into the control room and forced workers to turn off vital feeds that supplied the station with electricity.
According to Mbah, the armed individuals demanded a complete shutdown of the substation after ordering the operator on duty to open the Offa and Ojoku 33kV feeds.
“The Transmission Company of Nigeria, Osogbo Region, has declared force majeure on its Offa 132 kV Transmission Substation following a robbery incident at the facility. The substation was invaded by heavily armed men who forcefully gained access to the control room and held all personnel on duty hostage at gunpoint.
“The attackers ordered the operator on duty to open both the Offa and Ojoku 33kV feeders at exactly 12:45 am on Thursday, 7th May 2026. They further demanded a total shutdown of the substation,” Mbah said.
The intruders tampered with important control equipment throughout the operation, the TCN official added.
