Gunmen attack wedding after party, kills bride's father, hype man
Residents of Ikotun, Lagos State, were in a state of panic following a horrific incident in which gunmen suspected of being cults killed two individuals, including a bride's father and a hypeman known only as Victor.
According to reports, the attackers broke into a post-wedding celebration, started shooting, and forced the guests to run for their lives. The tragedy left the neighborhood in disarray.
According to reports, the attack happened on Saturday near Oviawe Street, off Governor's Road, just after a wedding ceremony had concluded and guests had assembled for an after-party.
The hypeman, Victor, was entertaining guests when the shooters invaded the premises and started shooting randomly, according to witnesses.
They were hosting an after-party at an event center on Governor's Road following the wedding ceremony, according to a local who spoke on condition of anonymity. They immediately approached Victor, pulled him out onto the street, and started using lethal weapons against him.
The bride's father was shot while trying to stop the assault, according to another local.
"The bride's father hurried in to defend Victor while the shooters were beating him. They were both shot during the process and immediately died, according to the source.
The neighborhood's shop owners and residents were compelled by the incident to quickly close their doors and seek shelter.
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson responded to the development by stating that the State Criminal probe Department, SCID, Panti, will handle the probe.
