Gunmen kill vigilante, abduct four residents in Abuja attack

In an assault on the Byazhin neighborhood of Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory, armed men killed a vigilante and abducted four locals.

The attack happened in the early hours of Thursday, according to a local named Aliyu, who also mentioned that the attackers were well-armed.

“The attack happened in the early hours of Thursday. The gunmen were about 28 who attacked the community. I think they might have camped in the area before they struck. Four residents were taken into the bush while one vigilante guiding the area was shot from behind and died as a result of the gunshot,” he said.

The dead vigilante has been buried, according to a security source who verified the occurrence.

Additionally, he revealed that a search and rescue effort for the kidnapped individuals had been initiated by united teams of security personnel.

“It is true. The vigilante had just been buried. The military, police and vigilantes came around. They are already in the bush in search of the criminals and to rescue the victims,” the source said.

Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, was not reachable at the time this report was filed, thus attempts to contact her were fruitless.

Kubwa's Byazhin neighborhood is a rapidly expanding suburb in the Federal Capital Territory that has recently raised security concerns.

The event contributes to a history of violent raids in the region, which has prompted increased community awareness and security measures.
