High court remands former CCT chairman at Kuje correctional centre
Danladi Umar, the former chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, has been placed under detention in the Kuje Correctional Center until his bail plea is heard, according to Justice Peter Kekemeke of the FCT High Court in Maitama.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Umar with four counts of giving himself an unfair advantage when he was the CCT chairman.
He entered a not guilty plea to the accusations. Christopher Mshelia, the prosecutor, had asked the court to remand the defendant at the jail facility and grant a day for the trial.
Umar's attorney requested that the court consider the bail application submitted on his client's behalf.
Judge Kekemeke postponed the hearing of the bail application until July 15th, citing the prosecution's insistence that they had only received the application and would need time to react.
