High court remands Portable over theft, assault
On Monday, the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, arraigned controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, better known by his stage name Portable, on a nine-count criminal allegation.
Following an incident at his pub in the Iyana Ilogbo region on New Year's Day, he is accused of assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest. Portable is accused of attacking Ashabi Simple, his former partner, as well as a number of police officers, including Ogungbe Olayemi, a female inspector.
Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah are among the other accused victims included in the charge sheet.
He was also accused of stealing Ileyemi Damilola's N12 million Mercedes-Benz E300. Ashabi Simple was not present in court, but two of her siblings testified as witnesses.
Because the allegedly assaulted police officer was not present, the judge refused to grant Portable bail and remanded him in detention until January 19.
The Ogun State Police Command, however, stated that it is looking into a widely shared video that purports to show Portable being beaten while in jail.
