High court sentences two men to death for kidnapping NYSC staff

After finding two men guilty of kidnapping Omoboade Adesina, a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the Ekiti State High Court condemned them to death by hanging.

After being apprehended by Department of State Services (DSS) agents in connection with the kidnapping that took place on April 22, 2022, Ibrahim Abubakar and Abdullahi Abubakar were charged.

The prosecution had proven its case against Ibrahim and Abdullahi Abubakar beyond a reasonable doubt, according to the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice Lekan Ogunmoye.

The two individuals were subsequently given hanging sentences by Justice Ogunmoye.

The DSS prosecution team received praise from the judge for their diligent investigation and prosecution of the case.

He noted that the DSS's identification parade and the examination of call data records were important pieces of evidence that helped the court make its ruling.

“The prosecution successfully established the guilt of the first and second defendants beyond reasonable doubt,” the judge held.

However, after finding that the prosecution had not shown Usman Abubakar's involvement in the crime, the court dismissed and cleared the third defendant.
