In advance of Saturday's by-election for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, the Independent National Electoral Commission has sent sensitive electoral materials to the three local government areas.

Political party agents, members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, security guards, CBN representatives, and media were present when the documents were given on Friday at the Central Bank of Nigeria's Gombe location.

495,851 registered voters are anticipated to cast ballots in the by-election, which is set for Saturday, September 19, 2026, throughout the constituency.

Alhaji Umar Muktar Gajiram, the Gombe State Resident Electoral Commissioner, told reporters following the process that the sensitive materials had been sent to the appropriate local government areas for further distribution to polling places.

He claimed that in order to increase openness and boost trust in the election process, the exercise was carried out in front of stakeholders.

Gajiram said, “The sensitive materials have been distributed to the respective local government areas. From there, they will be deployed to the various polling units ahead of tomorrow’s election.

“We have ensured that the process is done in the presence of all the relevant stakeholders, including political party agents, security agencies and other members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security.”

The REC clarified that in order to authenticate the sensitive documents and guarantee that only properly approved materials were used for the election, the endorsement and signatures were required.
