JAMB set to take UTME to Canada from 2027
Plans to open a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination center in Ottawa, Canada, starting in 2027 have been announced by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
Through the center, qualified Nigerians residing in Canada and other North American countries will be able to take the UTME without having to travel to Nigeria for the test.
After Prof. Segun Aina, JAMB's registrar, visited the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, the organization announced this on its official social media accounts.
The board stated, "The proposed center will make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to sit for the UTME without traveling to Nigeria solely for the examination."
According to JAMB, the program is a component of its mission to "take Nigerian tertiary education to the world."
The planned center would "strengthen the connection between Nigerians abroad and the Nigerian education system," it continued.
Additionally, the initiative will provide "greater opportunities to showcase Nigerian tertiary education internationally," according to the board.
"The UTME is getting closer to home for Nigerians in Canada," JAMB stated.
In addition, the board stated that it was "working toward establishing a UTME examination center in Ottawa, Canada, expected to commence operations in 2027."
The center would assist qualified Nigerians in Canada and throughout North America, especially those who are trying to get into Nigerian universities, according to JAMB.
The initiative is "a bigger opportunity to strengthen the connection between Nigerians in the diaspora and Nigerian tertiary education," according to the board.
It claimed that the action would give Nigerians living overseas "more access" and lessen the obstacles they must overcome in order to pursue higher education in Nigeria.
