Juju music legend, Y. K Ajao is dead

Prof. Y.K. Ajao, a seasoned juju artist, passed away, and the Nigerian music world is in sorrow.

Although the specifics of his passing are yet unknown, condolences have started to surface from the entertainment and cultural industries.

Sir Shina Peters, another Afrojuju artist, was among those honoring Ajao, describing him as a brother whose presence, sound, and spirit would never be forgotten.

“Still hard to believe. You weren’t just a friend, you were my brother. Prof Y.K Ajao, your sound, your spirit, your presence; unforgettable,”  Peters said .

Continuing, he said, “Thank you for everything. I’ll carry the memories always. Rest well, my brother. Your legacy lives on, your music lives on, and you will never be forgotten,” 

Before joining a band in Ibadan, Ajao, who was born in Iseyin, southwest Nigeria, showed an early interest in music. Later, he started his own band, Y.K. Ajao and His Professional Brothers Band, and became well-known in the juju scene.
