Kaduna ASUU suspends strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities branch at Kaduna State University has halted its strike action, according to the university's management, and classes have resumed as usual.

In a news conference held in his office on Thursday, KASU Vice Chancellor Prof. Abdullahi Musa revealed that Governor Uba Sani had authorised a ?50 million monthly standing order for staff welfare support and had established a negotiating team to address any difficulties.

He also said that N146 million had been issued by Governor Uba Sani to cover certain withheld salaries and allowances for students participating in the Industrial Work Experience Scheme.

In order to improve financial autonomy, the Vice Chancellor further revealed that the Governor had authorised the university's retention of a specific percentage of its internally generated money after assessing the actual amount received.

‘’These measures are not only bold but unprecedented in the recent history of the University.

“The Management commends His Excellency for his extraordinary sensitivity to the plight of students, the condition of education, and the welfare of academic and non-academic staff,’’ he added.

Musa added that a high-level negotiation team has been established by the government to continue negotiating with all university unions on unresolved matters.
