The Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was approved by the Kano House of Assembly. Its suggestions are intended to improve the management and regulation of private and voluntary educational institutions throughout the state.

After considering and adopting the report of the House Committee on Education, which held public hearings and involved pertinent stakeholders prior to submitting its conclusions to the Assembly, the bill was enacted during Monday's plenary.

Speaking following the bill's passing, Speaker of the House Ismail Falgore praised members for their contributions during the legislative process and described the amendment as a major step toward enhancing the management of Kano State's private and voluntary schools.

In order to guarantee better board management, the updated law calls for the establishment of the office of Executive Secretary.

Additionally, it adds a clause mandating that before raising tuition or other fees, private and voluntary schools and institutes must get approval.

Furthermore, by guaranteeing that each proposed increase is subject to regulatory monitoring, the legislation is intended to shield parents and guardians from arbitrary fee increases by private educational institutions.

Before the amendment was finally considered and passed by the Assembly, the House Committee on Education held public hearings where stakeholders were consulted extensively.
