Kano Assembly suspends three LG chairman over alleged misappropriation of funds
The chairmen of Bagwai, Bebeji, and Rogo Local Government Areas were suspended for three months by the Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday due to accusations of financial embezzlement, abuse of power, and other misconduct.
The House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs' report, which was submitted by its chairman, Aliyu Muhammad, at a plenary chaired by Speaker Ismail Falgore, was adopted after the resolution.
Muhammad stated that after the Assembly referred the concerns to the committee for legislative review, the committee looked into individual petitions against the three council chairmen.
Before reaching its conclusions, he said, the committee conducted interactive meetings with the legislative councils of the impacted councils and reviewed documentation material that was acquired from them.
The committee found instances of alleged embezzlement of public monies intended for development projects in Bagwai Local Government Area, according to the report.
