Kidnap victim rescued by police in Oyo

A few hours after being abducted on Saturday in Olorunda Village, Haruna Lawal was freed by the Oyo State Police Command.

This was revealed in a statement provided to reporters in Ibadan on Sunday by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the command's spokesperson.

He claimed that the rapid rescue of the abducted victim was due to the command's dedication to protecting people and property as well as the coordinated response of police officers.

Olayinka stated that on Saturday at around 2:10 a.m., the victim's sister, Alimot, called the command in distress regarding the kidnapping incident, claiming that her brother's home had been broken into by suspected kidnappers carrying hazardous weapons.

“During the invasion, the assailants abducted Haruna Lawal (male) of Olorunda Village via Oyo and escaped with his motorcycle to an unknown location.

“Upon receipt of the report, and acting on the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna, operatives of the Command immediately swung into action and deployed to the area,” he said.

According to Olayinka, the kidnappers were forced to abandon the victim and flee as a result of the police patrol vehicles' intensive bush-combing activity and swift response.

He claimed that although the kidnapped victim was saved alive, he had a head injury during the incident and was presently receiving the necessary medical care at the General Hospital in Oyo.

While the event was being investigated, Olayinka claimed that efforts had been stepped up to locate and apprehend the escaping culprits.

He also reassured the public that the Command is prepared to make sure criminals have nowhere to hide in the State.
