Kwara auto crash leaves 15 persons dead, 17 injured

An automobile accident near the Muslim Cemetery on the Ogbomoso–Oko Olowo section of the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway in Kwara claimed the lives of at least fifteen people.

In a statement provided to reporters on Monday in Ilorin, Mr. Kabir Kazeem, the Federal Road Safety Corps' Kwara Sector Commander, verified the event.

According to Kazeem, a single DAF XF truck with registration number GWL 274 XC was involved in the deadly collision, which happened at around 2.32 in the morning.

According to the sector commander, 48 male occupants were engaged in the collision; 15 were verified deceased, 17 had various injuries, and 16 managed to escape unharmed.

He said that the victims had fractures, dislocations, and bruising, and he blamed driver weariness for the collision.

According to Kazeem, the wounded victims were sent to Baki Hospital and Arewa Medical Center for medical attention.

He continued by saying that the Sarkin Hausawa of Oko Olowo in the Moro Local Government Area in Kwara had given the deceased's bodies to their relatives.

According to Kazeem, there is still a search going on for anyone who might have been buried by the weight of the truck.

He said that members of RS8.15 Oloru Unit Command and RS8.1 Kwara Command (Oko Olowo Outpost) worked together to conduct the rescue mission.

The head of the FRSC stated that the command would arrange town hall meetings with pertinent stakeholders to increase public awareness.

Additionally, he cautioned drivers against driving while tired, mixed loads, and traveling at night. (NAN)
