After visiting her partner in Abuja, a woman known only as Esther is said to have passed away. According to information received, the event took place on Wednesday in the Federal Capital Territory's Dei-Dei neighborhood. 

According to a local resident named Dauda, Esther left the house on Wednesday to go see her boyfriend. He claimed that after Esther passed away, the lover called her older brother in the middle of the night to let him know. 

Dauda went on to say that the boyfriend claimed to have bought her food, which caused her to start throwing up afterward. 

He mentioned that she was taken to Kubwa General Hospital by her boyfriend, where she passed away while undergoing treatment. According to Dauda, the boyfriend has turned off both his and Esther's phones.

Dauda said the boyfriend has switched off his phone and that of Esther.

He said, “Esther left home in the afternoon on January 21, 2026, informing her sister that she was going to a bank in Dei-Dei. She, however, did not return home.

“Later that night, at about on the same day, his brother received an anonymous phone call from a man who identified himself as Esther’s boyfriend. The caller re stated that Esther had visited him at his residence, where he bought food for her. After eating the meal, she began vomiting, prompting him to rush her to Kubwa General Hospital.

“He said Esther died while receiving treatment at the hospital. Since then her boyfriend’s number has been switched off, same with Esther’s phone number. He didn’t also give his name or address.”

Josephine Adeh, the Federal Capital Territory Police Public Relations Officer, stated that an inquiry was underway when reached on Friday.

“We are aware of the incident and we are investigating,” she said.
