Lagos-Abeokuta expressway crash leaves one dead, 13 injured
A single incident at the Eruku Bridge on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Ogun State resulted in one fatality and thirteen injuries of varied degrees.
Oluwarantimi posted several videos from the scene of the collision, which showed onlookers attempting to save victims from the car's wreckage.
Some people who were thought to be victims sat on the floor and moaned in agony, and the car was also observed lying on its side.
Additionally, a female victim with bloodstains on the expressway was observed laying still on the road.
Afolabi Odunsi, a spokeswoman for the Federal Road Safety Corps' Ogun State Sector Command, confirmed the event on Sunday and said that it happened at approximately 12:00 p.m. near Eruku Bridge along the Abeokuta-Lagos highway.
According to Odunsi, 16 people—two adult males, twelve adult females, and two female children—were engaged in the collision.
He noted that “one adult female lost her life, while 13 others, including two adult males and 11 adult females, sustained injuries. Two female children escaped unhurt.”
Odunsi blamed the collision, which included a white Mazda bus with registration number MUS 543XZ, on both a speeding infraction and a tire burst.
“The probable causes of the crash were speed violation and tyre burst. The crash involved a white Mazda bus with registration number MUS 543XZ,” the update noted.
Bags and jewelry were found at the scene of the collision, Odunsi continued.
The FRSC claims that five minutes after receiving the distress call, rescue personnel reached the location and started the victims' evacuation right away.
