Lagos auto crash leaves one dead, six injured

A terrible traffic collision that happened early on Sunday near Majidun, within Ogolonto, directly across from MRS Filling Station along Ikorodu Road, Lagos, resulted in at least one fatality and six injuries of varied severity.

A stalled tipper truck and a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number EPE 494 XM were involved in the crash.

The commercial bus, which was chartered to transport guests to a scheduled event in Ogijo, experienced an unexpected brake failure, according to preliminary investigations conducted by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The driver, who was allegedly driving too fast, lost control and violently collided with the parked tipper truck.

One adult female passenger died instantly as a result of the hit, while five other female passengers and one male passenger suffered serious injuries.

While the deceased's remains were given to security personnel, who transported them to the General Hospital in Ikorodu for official paperwork, all injured victims were sent to a neighboring private hospital.

The tipper truck driver tried to escape after realizing how serious the collision was, but LASTMA officers quickly chased and apprehended him.  Additionally, the driver of the commercial bus was captured.  For additional investigation, both have been moved to the Ipakodo Police Division.

The wreckage of both cars was removed off the road by LASTMA workers in order to restore order and facilitate traffic into Ikorodu Garage.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, extended the bereaved family his sympathies and expressed his profound compassion for the situation.  He wished the wounded victims a quick recovery and prayed for God to give them the fortitude to deal with the loss.
