Lagos building collapse kill one, injures three
On Friday, a two-story building that was under construction collapsed in the Fadeyi neighborhood of Lagos State, killing one person and injuring three more.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.
The building collapsed in the early hours of Friday, according to Oke-Osanyintolu, who also stated that rescue teams were attempting to determine whether more people were still trapped beneath the rubble.
According to Oke-Osanyintolu, at 12:10 a.m., LASEMA received a distress call regarding the incident, which prompted the agency's Onipanu Base to immediately activate its Cobra Response Team.
The LASEMA Permanent Secretary added that the two-story building, which was still under construction, had collapsed when the response team reached the scene at 12:12 a.m., two minutes later.
He restated that after initial observations suggested that construction workers might have been trapped beneath the wreckage, the team then started search and rescue operations.
He claims that while putting safety precautions in place to safeguard both the trapped individuals and the rescue workers, emergency responders started working right away to find and evacuate victims.
