Lagos closes 12 hotels, malls for violating lift and elevator safety regulations
According to the state administration, at least 12 establishments, including hotels, retail centers, and other structures, have been sealed due to operators' frequent violations of lift and elevator safety regulations.
The impacted structures are dispersed over important areas, such as Admiralty Way in Lekki Phase 1 and portions of Ikeja.
The Heritage/AXA on Awolowo Road, Ikeja; Mosesola House, Debour House, and Bosch House on Soji Adepegba Close; Bridge View, Elizabeth Court, 10Bou Towers, Brion Court, Footprints Apartments, and Lekki Luxury Flats; and Brasas Mall on Admiralty Way, Lekki are among the establishments impacted by the operation.
The Lagos State Safety Commission was in charge of the enforcement last Thursday.
The commission claimed that a number of structures, retail centers, and lodging facilities had disregarded its alerts regarding the necessity of adhering to the "mandatory lift and elevator safety regulations."
Because "property owners and managers failed to register their lift systems with the state government for inspection, maintenance, and safety monitoring," the facilities were sealed.
The Director-General, Lanre Mojola, was represented by the Commission's Chief Scientific Officer, Sovi Tijani, who led the enforcement team. Tijani stated that the clampdown was required due to chronic contempt for regulatory guidelines.
