Due to allegations of indiscriminate raw sewage discharge into public drains, the Lagos State Government closed an i-Fitness Gym facility in the Jakande Roundabout area of Lekki Peninsula, Eti-Osa, on Tuesday.

According to a post made on the official X handle of Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office was responsible for the action.

According to LSWMO, the factory was closed for allegedly directing untreated sewage into public drainage systems, which the government deemed to be an environmental concern and a public nuisance.

According to the government, the action violated environmental standards and presented significant dangers to public health.

It further stated that enforcement action was required to guarantee adherence to the state's wastewater management regulations.

The statement read in part, ”The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) on Tuesday 23rd June, 2026, sealed off Jakande Roundabout, Lekki Peninsula, Eti-Osa, Lagos, over indiscriminate discharge of raw sewage into public drains via pipe, thereby causing public nuisance and environmental pollution as well as endangering human health.”

The government reaffirmed the need for people and organizations to follow appropriate wastewater management procedures and warned that violators would be subject to penalties and potential legal action under applicable environmental regulations.

In order to lower pollution and safeguard public health throughout Lagos, officials also urged citizens and companies to adopt safer environmental practices.

“Lagos State government reiterates the need for the public to adhere strictly to proper wastewater management practices, noting that any individual or organisation found contravening environmental regulations will be meted with appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution in accordance with the enabling laws,” the statement partly read.
