Lagos court sentences man to 15 years imprisonment for N26m fraud
Abdulrahman Lawal Raji was sentenced to 15 years in jail by a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja for scamming a customer of N26 million while pretending to deliver a Toyota Hilux.
On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, Justice Ismail Ijelu handed down the verdict after finding Raji guilty of collecting money by deception.
According to an EFCC statement, the offender was arraigned on November 9, 2023, on an amended two-count charge by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The anti-graft agency claims that Raji took N26 million from Olaide Ibidapo, a petitioner, to buy a 2022 Toyota Hilux but did not deliver the car or give the money back.
One of the charges against him read:"ABDULRAHMAN LAWAL RAJI and ABDULRAHMAN LAWAL (at large), between 20th March, 2023 and 21 March, 2023 at Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud, obtained a gross sum of N26,000,000 from Olaide Ibidapo by falsely representing it was the purchase price for a Toyota Hilux 2022 car, which representation you knew to be false”.
When the allegations were read to Raji, he entered a not guilty plea.
Ebuka Okongwu, the prosecution's attorney, called four witnesses throughout the trial and submitted a number of documents that the court accepted as evidence.
