Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident leaves six dead, two injured

A car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, close to the NASFAT intersection in Ogun State, resulted in at least six confirmed deaths and two injuries. The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun Sector Command, verified the event and stated that it happened at approximately 2:36 pm. 

A Volvo truck and a Mazda commercial bus were involved in the collision along the congested stretch of the motorway, according to the FRSC.

“The cause of the crash was overspeeding,” the statement read.

Eight people were involved in the collision, according to SRC Odunsi Afolabi, the sector spokeswoman. Six of them died instantly, while the other two had various injuries.

“We were told that some good Samaritan took some injured victims to an unknown hospital before the arrival of the team. Some victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Lotto, for medical attention. While the dead bodies were taken to the morgue.

“The FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun state, Corps Commander Akinwumi O Fasakin, has directed FRSC crash investigators to carry out a full investigation into the crash, as it’s our practice to further investigate such,” he said.

The statement stated that in addition to police officers and TRACE officials, FRSC troops from the Mowe Unit, Ibafo Outpost, and ambulance crews from the Ojota Unit Command took involved in the rescue effort. 

Before rescue personnel arrived, he continued, some injured victims were transported by good Samaritans to an unidentified hospital, while others received treatment at Famobis Hospital in Lotto. The victims' remains were placed in a mortuary.
