Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash leaves one dead

A multiple-vehicle collision at Car Park C along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway's outbound portion in Ogun State claimed the life of a physically challenged beggar.

The event happened early in the morning, according to a statement released on Saturday by Babatunde Akinbiyi, Head of Media at the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency.

He mentioned that the collision involved a white Toyota bus with registration number AKD 137 YA, a loaded DAF truck with registration number AKM 476 XB, and a Mack truck carrying containers with registration number AGL 374 XX.

According to eyewitness accounts, the Mack truck experienced brake failure as it approached the turning point and then crashed into cars that were turning, according to Akinbiyi.

He continued by saying that the truck struck the physically challenged beggar in a wheelchair and killed him as a result of the brake failure.

He stated, “According to eyewitness accounts, the MACK truck had a brake failure and hit vehicles negotiating a turning, and a beggar on wheels chair, slicing his body.

“Traffic outbound Lagos route is highly affected. TRACE Operatives, FRSC, and the police are on the ground doing the needful.”

He stated that as of the time this report was filed, efforts were underway to remove the automobiles involved in the accident and restore free traffic flow.
