Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash leaves six dead, 23 injured
Six people were confirmed dead and twenty-three injured in a collision at the Four Square Camp on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Odunsin Afolabi, the command's public relations officer, verified this in a statement released on Monday in the state capital of Abeokuta.
“The incident occurred at about 11:27 hours. The response time was two minutes before the rescue team from the Federal Road Safety Corps Ogunmakin Unit Command got to the scene. A trailer, DAF CF 380, with registration number SNA 287 XA, was involved in the lone crash,” he said.
“A total of 29 persons were involved: 23 were injured while six were killed.”
Afolabi attributed the cause of the accident to fatigue and speeding, which led to loss of control.
Fatigue and speeding, which resulted in loss of control, were cited by Afolabi as the causes of the collision.
Additionally, he cautioned against loading animals and passengers together, pointing out that this frequently makes it difficult to keep people and products apart during travel, which could lead to fatalities.
Both the deceased and the injured were transported to Victory Hospital in Ogere and Oreoluwa Hospital at GOFAMINT Camp in Ogunmakin.
All drivers have been cautioned by the FRSC to routinely service and examine commercial vehicles, particularly big trailers. It is recommended that drivers adhere to all traffic safety laws, maintain safe speeds, and maintain control of their cars, especially on highways.
