Lagos police arrest 38 foreigners, recover firearms

Following intelligence reports about a large number of foreigners occupying a building in the area, the Lagos State Police Command arrested 38 foreign nationals in Epe, Lagos State. Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, revealed that the operation was initiated after credible intelligence indicated suspicious activities involving the building's occupants.

He made it clear that the foreigners who were detained had nothing to do with the people in a recent viral video that caused a stir in the public.

Four Chinese nationals, nine Cameroonians, four Beninese, four Malaysians, two Togolese, and one Ghanaian are among those detained, according to the police commissioner.

Preliminary investigations, according to Tijani, raised concerns because many of the suspects were unable to give adequate justifications for their actions in Nigeria.

“We got information that there were lots of foreign nationals occupying a particular building. We went into action and arrested 14 Chinese nationals, nine Cameroonians, four Beninese, four Malaysians, two Togolese and one Ghanaian,” he said.

Some of the suspects, he continued, claimed to be involved in networking enterprises, but they were unable to provide a sufficient explanation for the nature of their businesses.
