During an operation in the state's Mushin area, the Lagos State Police Command apprehended four alleged members of the Aiye Confraternity cult group and found a locally manufactured Beretta pistol and one round of live 9mm ammunition.

Operatives of the Command's Violent Crime Response Unit, or VCRU, made the arrests after learning about suspected cult groups' operations in Mushin.

The operation started with the arrest of a suspect named Irawo Moshod, according to a statement released on Monday by Abimbola Adebisi, the Command's spokeswoman.

According to the police, Moshod—who allegedly acknowledged being a former leader of the Aiye Confraternity—provided information that helped detectives find a firearm and identify several accused members of the group.

According to the Command, the suspect allegedly revealed information about the group's operations, including his purported role in multiple murders in Mushin and other areas of Lagos State.

Based on information gathered throughout the inquiry, VCRU agents allegedly went to Idi-Oro, Mushin, where they found one round of live 9mm ammo and a locally manufactured Beretta pistol.

Three other alleged gang members were later detained by the police at Aganran by Ojuwoye.

They were identified as Steven Sunday, 19, Farouq Bankole, 28, and Abayomi James, 29.

The Command claims that the three suspects acknowledged belonging to the Aiye Confraternity and informed investigators that the discovered firearm was purportedly taken from a man named Rilwan, whom they identified as the group's top member.

While attempts were being stepped up to capture further suspected members of the organization, the police stated the four suspects were still in custody and helping authorities with the ongoing investigation.

The VCRU officers were praised by Lagos State Command Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai for what he called a proactive, intelligence-driven operation against criminal activity connected to cults.
