Lagos police detain officers over alleged N3.3m extortion from couple

Officers accused of extorting N3.3 million from a couple in the state have been identified and apprehended, according to the Lagos State Police Command.

Following accusations that appeared on social media, the leadership revealed on Monday that the cops were located. On December 18, 2025, the officers from Area H Command in Ogudu are said to have unlawfully arrested a couple and forced them to pay $2,000.

Additionally, it was stated that N2.2 million was returned to the victims after the event garnered public notice on X, but the officers reportedly begged to keep roughly N1.1 million, claiming the money had already been divided among multiple staff members.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the development and stated that the concerned officers had been arrested and moved to the command center for a comprehensive investigation.

She revealed that Olohundare Jimoh, the Commissioner of Police, had instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police responsible for Administration to oversee the investigation.

The command claims that while efforts are being made to have the complaint formally provide his account to support the investigation, the impacted officers have since made statements as part of the ongoing investigation.
