Lagos PSP fires 22 operators for underperformance

Twenty-two Private Sector Participation operators have had their contracts canceled by the Lagos State rubbish Management Authority due to noncompliance with rubbish collection and disposal requirements.

The PSP operators are private businesses that LAWMA has hired to handle garbage transportation and collection in specific regions of the state.  Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, revealed this on Wednesday in Lagos during a press conference.

According to Gbadegesin, the impacted operators' slots were taken away and given to other businesses because of "failure in effective waste collection."

Gbadegesin explained that the affected operators had their slots withdrawn and reassigned to other companies due to “failure in effective waste collection.”

“We axed about 22 PSP operators this year. We replaced them with others due to failure in effective waste collection. LAWMA has the framework to supervise the PSP operators in the state.

“In fact, we have people who monitor the PSP operators and report to us those who are performing and those who are not.

“It helps us to monitor their performance across the state,” he said.

He warned that anyone seen disposing of debris in drainage channels would "face the full wrath of the law" and reiterated the agency's commitment to preserving a cleaner environment. He also encouraged locals to refrain from dumping trash on road.
