Motor crushes hawker to death in Lagos crash
In the Okokomaiko neighborhood of Lagos State, a roadside vendor was crushed to death in a collision.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, a Lexus Jeep with registration number SMK 674 HY was involved in the deadly collision.
The victim, an adult male, died instantly, according to a statement released on Sunday by the agency's Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, Adebayo Taofiq.
He claimed that after receiving a distress call, LASTMA personnel moved quickly to secure the area and remove the deceased's body off the carriageway.
“LASTMA swiftly responded to a tragic road incident that resulted in the death of a roadside hawker at Okokomaiko, alongside a separate collision at Ogudu inward Toll Gate, where seven injured passengers were successfully rescued.
“The fatal incident at Okokomaiko involved a Lexus Jeep with registration number SMK 674 HY. The crash led to the untimely death of an adult male hawker. LASTMA officials responded swiftly to the distress call, securing the accident scene and evacuating the remains of the deceased from the carriageway,” the statement partly read.
It was said that the body was then transported to the Badagry Mortuary by the Ketu Division police officers for additional mandatory procedures.
In a another instance, the agency reported that it saved seven passengers who had been hurt in a collision at the inward toll gate of Ogudu.
A Lexus Jeep with registration number FKJ 23 HL and a Mazda commercial bus with registration number MUS 231 YA were involved in the collision.
It was said that LASTMA officials and Ogudu Police Division officers quickly intervened at the scene.
