Murtala Garo gets nominated as Kano deputy governor
Murtala Garo has been nominated as Deputy Governor by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who has sent his name to the Kano State House of Assembly for review and approval.
This is stated in a statement that Mustapha Muhammad, the governor's chief press secretary, signed on Wednesday.
The statement claims that the nomination is in accordance with Section 191(3) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which gives a governor the authority to designate a deputy in the event of a vacancy.
On March 27, 2026, Abdussalam Gwarzo, the former deputy governor, tendered his resignation.
Habibu Mohammed, the spokesperson for the Kwankwasiyya Movement, confirmed Gwarzo's resignation in a statement.
According to the statement, the decision was made to guarantee stability in Kano State's government and to serve the interests of the populace.
According to Governor Yusuf, Garo's nomination came after discussions with important state stakeholders.
According to the statement, Governor Yusuf requested that the nomination be reviewed and approved by the Kano House of Assembly.
Murtala Garo, 48, has worked in politics and administration for more than 20 years.
He has held positions as Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area, Special Advisor to the Governor, and State Organizing Secretary for his party.
