In the parallel market on Friday, the value of the Naira increased by ?5 from N1,555/$ the day before to N1,550 per dollar.  

In contrast, according to data issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria, the local currency in the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market lost ?1 and dropped from N1,531/$ to N1,532 per dollar.  

As a result, the difference between the official and black market rates decreased to ?18 from ?24 the day before.  Throughout the week, the Naira fluctuated but stayed within the N1,500/$ level in both markets.  

From a beginning rate of N1,565/$, it gained ?15 at the official window, although losing ?2.5 on the parallel market.  The CBN's regular interventions in the FX market are credited by analysts with the relative stability.
