Naira drops against dollar at foreign exchange market

The week ended negatively for the naira due to a notable depreciation against the naira at the official foreign exchange market.

According to figures from the Central Bank of Nigeria, the value of the Naira fell from N1,455.25 on Thursday to N1,465.68 on Friday.  This indicates that following a sharp increase on Thursday, the naira lost N10.43 on a daily basis.

On the black market, however, the Naira held steady at N1,485 to the dollar on Friday, which was the same exchange rate as on Thursday.

According to DAILY POST, Friday’s Naira depreciation is the first since this week, as the country’s currency had a good run in the prior four days.

On a week-on-week basis, the naira appreciated by N14.98 as compared to N1,480.66 per dollar recorded last week, Friday, September 27th, 2025.

This trend coincides with Nigeria's external reserves continuing to increase, rising from $42.33 billion on September 29, 2025, to $42.40 billion on October 2, 2025.
