NAPTIP rescues eight stolen children from child traffickers' den

Eight children who were allegedly abducted from Kano and other northern states and transported to the South-South and South-East by a well-known interstate child trafficking ring have been saved by NAPTIP (National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons) operations.

According to reports, a key executive of the Association of Orphanage Operators in Nigeria operated a privately held orphanage where the rescued children, who ranged in age from two to ten, were kept.

According to NAPTIP, more than 70 children, including 15 newborns, were found at the facility.  It did, however, confirm that just eight Kano children were listed as missing.

The Department of State Services (DSS), Anambra State Command; the Nigeria Police, Delta Command; and the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs supported the "intelligence-driven" operation, which also involved distressed parents and civil society organizations.  Dr. Binta Bello, the Director General of NAPTIP, spoke about the operation and denounced what she called the "unwholesome activities" of certain orphanages in the nation.

According to her, the discovery came after years of complaints from parents in Kano and the surrounding states, who as early as 2017 expressed concern about syndicates enticing kids between the ages of two and ten from neighborhoods, schools, and marketplaces.
