NDLEA arrests drug kingpin after seven years of being wanted

After seven years of eluding capture, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reports that it has apprehended Okpara Paul Chigozie, a 60-year-old drug lord.

In a statement released on Sunday, Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA Headquarters Abuja, said Chigozie was detained while trying to transport significant amounts of cocaine and methamphetamine to the Southeast and other regions of the nation.

According to Babafemi, the suspect, who has been on the NDLEA's wanted list since 2019, was apprehended on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at his hideout at 72 Michael Ojo Street, Isheri in the Ojo area of Lagos state, after some of his shipments were intercepted at 5:45 a.m. that same day at Ilasamaja along the Apapa-Oshodi expressway.

Babafemi added that during the early-morning operation, a group of NDLEA agents acting on reliable information detained 51-year-old Achebe Kenneth Nnamdi, one of the Okparas couriers, as he drove a white Toyota Sienna to Onitsha, Anambra state.

The spokesperson added that once the agency's sniffer dogs searched the car, 900 grams of methamphetamine and 7.6 kilograms of cocaine were discovered concealed in the space bus's body compartments.
