NDLEA nabs 27-year-old with N10 million worth of illicit drug in Kano

According to the Kano Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Umar Adamu-Umar, 27, has been taken into custody for possessing nine kilograms of Cannabis Sativa (Colorado), valued at more than N10 million.

Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the command's public relations officer, made this announcement in Kano on Saturday.

He stated that the suspect, who lived in Kano State's Fagge Local Government Area, was taken into custody by NDLEA agents affiliated with the Kiru Area Command of Kano on August 6 along the Zaria–Kano Road.

He said that the suspect was stopped while transporting 19 packages of the illegal drug from Lagos to Kano.

“The suspect confessed to being involved in the illegal drug trade and had been under surveillance by the command for some time,” Muhammad-Maigatari said.

He clarified that the trafficking network suffered a significant financial setback as a result of the interception since it prevented traffickers from receiving a sizable income, interfered with their supply chain, and decreased the amount of money available for additional illegal activity.

“Removing this quantity from circulation also helps protect vulnerable communities from the social and economic harms associated with the trade in narcotics,” he added.

According to the spokesperson, in order to combat drug trafficking in the state, the Strategic Command, directed by Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, would step up patrols and intelligence-led operations.
