NDLEA seizes hard drugs, destroys seven hectares of cannabis in Kogi
In Kogi, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) claims to have collected 369 kg of various hard drugs and destroyed seven hectares of cannabis cultivation.
In a statement released Monday in Lokoja by the command's Head of Media and Advocacy, Dahiru Abdullahi, Mr. Umar Yahuza, NDLEA Commander, Kogi Strategic Command, revealed this.
Yahuza claimed that reliable intelligence from collaborating individuals was the reason for the command's breakthrough in locating the seven hectares.
He said that his officers used the intelligence to quickly execute raids in the Elugu-Egugu forest of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Kogi, in the early hours of Thursday, August 25, and apprehend the suspects.
“The command has also intercepted several shipments of hard drugs moving through the state to other parts of the country.
“We have seized more than 369 kilograms of assorted hard drugs within the month of August alone,” he said.
He claims that psychoactive medications and cannabis sativa are among the drugs that were confiscated.
“These successes were achieved with the intelligence-led operations in line with the current leadership of the agency led by Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba-Marwa (rtd), ” he said.
He claimed that in order to raise awareness of the risks associated with drug usage and illegal trafficking, the command had started a series of sensitization campaigns.
In collaboration with state-based Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Yahuza arranged for some of the sites visited, including as schools, automobile parks, marketplaces, and houses of worship.
