Nigeria Army decorates eight promoted officers in Imo

On Friday, eight promoted officers were recognized by the Nigerian Army's 34 Artillery Brigade, Obinze, located in Owerri, Imo State.

At the brigade's headquarters in Owerri, Brig. Gen. Ibrahim Abbas, the Brigade Commander, performed the decoration with senior brigade officers in tow.  According to the News Agency of Nigeria, six officers received promotions from captain to major.

They included Joseph Akubo, who is currently the brigade's Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, U. C. Adiela, A.M. Saud, S. Gabriel, A.G. Abideen, and M.A. Adeniran.

Both Y. Audu and H.C. Mmeribegini received promotions from Lieutenant to Captain.  The promoted officers' "gallantry, courage, and dedication to duty" were praised by Abbas.

He stated that the promotion was a result of Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff, continuing to honor officers' efforts.

He wished them luck in their next endeavors and advised them to not give up in the defense of Nigeria's sovereignty.

According to NAN, Mr. Gabriel Nwosu, who represents Oguta state in the Imo House of Assembly, and Mr. Eugene Dibiagwu, who represents Oguta and Ohaji-Egbema in the House of Representatives, were among those who attended the brief ceremony.  The brigade's gift-giving to departing officers was one of the event's highlights.
